The garden has spectacular views to the South Downs and is full of colour, including a black and white border. Borders surround a lawn, with a mixture of shrubs, perennials and annuals to prolong the flowering to the onset of winter. Roses vie with Salvias, Fuchsias and, later, Dahlias, and all thrive with a background of Acers and small trees for good autumn colour.
The garden is instantly beguiling, settled around the 17th-century brick farmhouse. It is a garden of compartments, the largest with a lawn surrounded by lushly planted borders. Irish yews contrast with a superb Acer griseum. An enclosed garden has box-hedged beds of roses and perennials, and terracotta pots filled with purple-flowering Tibouchina.
A framework of hedges and walls creates a series of rooms: the rill garden, the mirror pond, the grass gardens, and the rose gardens. The mirror pond is overlooked by a thatched pavilion, approached through interesting trees and shrubs. Inside the main gardens are herbaceous borders, a white and blue garden, a long rose-arch path, peony beds, and a swimming pool garden.
