As well as running Border Lines and Border Lines Abroad, James Bolton is also a garden designer.
Initially, I trained with the Direction des Parcs et Jardins in Paris, followed by the Inchbald School of Design, before being appointed head gardener at the Old Rectory, Farnborough. I established my garden design business in 1992.
Since then I have been involved with a specialist perennial plant nursery and designed gardens across southern England from Suffolk to Devon as well as Portugal and the United States.
In addition, I can call on a wide range of craftsmen: blacksmiths, lead-foundry men, carpenters, glasshouse restorers, potters, furniture designers and stonemasons etc. who have worked to my designs over a number of years.
